"Single Direct Attack"
In Jeet Kune Do, (Bruce Lee's philosophy on training and combat), there are several key concepts that help explain different methods of engagement.
One of these is the "Single Direct Attack", or SDA.
The principle of SDA is extremely simple: Take the fastest line to your target, directly, without hesitation. A standard orthodox boxing jab is a great example of SDA.
It is direct, minimal, explosive, and highly effective. SDA is all about taking extreme initiative, and dominating the situation that you are in. It's not deceptive, does not waste effort, and dispatches the target with a minimum of effort, thereby retaining energy reserves rather than wasting them. SDA also creates further opportunities by overloading and confusing the opponent, giving birth to precious seconds of indecision, facilitating the possibility of follow up.
In short, by identifying a target and moving toward it with extreme focus and lack of hesitation, it not only finds it's mark, but creates fresh opportunity at the same time.
Not a bad way to approach your life.
